The main attraction in Malvan apart from the beaches is the famous sea fort of Shivaji - The Sindhudurg fort. The ferry to visit the Sindhudurg fort is available from the Malvan jetty which is just two kms from the Malvan town. MTDC trained guides are available to take you on a guided tour of the Sindhudurg fort. Of all the things a visit to the fort is absolutely must do!
Sindhudurg Fort..

A Fort after which the district was named Sindhudurg fort is the most prominent landmark of this region. Built between 1664-67 AD by Shivaji maharaj, the Sindhudurg fort has it foundation laid on molten lead. One of the best preserved sea forts Sindhudurg fort has a four kms long rampart with 42 bastions. The fort is approachable from the Malvan pier by boat.

The Sindhudurg fort built on the Kurte Island on over 44 acers of land in Malvan also a S.C.U.B.A. diving and snorkeling site is the primary attraction in Malvan apart from the beaches. The stone inscriptions, bastions and the citadels of this fort would definitely transport you to a different land and time altogether. Descendands of Shivaji's era still inhabit this fort and carry forward the traditions of yore to this day.

Diving Site

The coral reefs which cover the surrounding of the Sindhudurg fort was identified as the premiere diving site in the Tarkarli region. Now a few more diving sites are available.

Shivaji’s Palm and Footprints

Shivaji’s palm prints and footprints are preserved in Sindhudurg Fort on dried lime slabs in a tower. Shivrajeshwar Temple built in the honour of Shivaji is also there on the Fort.

The entrance of the fort is at the northeast corner with 45 staircases leading from the inside to the top of the wall. There is a temple of Maruti near the gate and few small temples of Bhavani, Mahadeo, Jarimai and Shivaji which was built by Rajaram.
